Aesthetics-L User’s Guide

1. Broadcasting Messages to the List

To send a message to the list, send an email to <aesthetics-l@indiana.edu>.

To make sure all subscribers receive news items, begin the Subject: line of your message with the word "News:" (with the colon).

2. Setting Subscription Options

Your subscription to Aesthetics-L has several useful options. You can set them by visiting the IU Listserv web page or by sending commands by email.

3. Your Subscription Address

In order to sign off the list or change your subscription options, you need to know the email address you originally used to subscribe to Aesthetics-L. To find out what email address you originally used to subscribe to the list, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

review aesthetics-l (nohead)

Alternatively, enter your current email address below and a list of subscribers will be sent to you.

4. Common Email Commands

Mail sent to <aesthetics-l@indiana.edu> will be sent to subscribers. Never send any command to this address. Instead, send commands to <listserv@indiana.edu>.

Leaving the List

Leave the list at any time by sending an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

signoff aesthetics-l

Daily Digests

Average traffic on Aesthetics-L exceeds six messages a day. Yo keep your in-box uncluttered, select the digest option. Once a day you will be sent the day’s messages as a single email. To turn on the digest option, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l digest

To turn off the digest option and get broadcasts as separate messages, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l nodigest

The News Only Option

If you wish to receive only news items, such as calls for papers and conference announcements, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l topics: news

Note that the news only option does not work with the digest option. If you wish to turn off the news only option and receive all broadcasts, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l topics: all

Suspending Email

To suspend email but remain subscribed to this list, send a message to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l nomail

To restart the flow of messages, send a message to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

set aesthetics-l mail

Renewing Your Subscription

Subscribers must renew their subscriptions once a year. To renew your subscription, send an email to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

confirm aesthetics-l

Changing Your Email Address

To change your subscription address, send an email from your old email address to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

signoff aesthetics-l

then send an email from your new email address to <listserv@indiana.edu> with the message:

subscribe aesthetics-l
