It is with great pleasure that the American Society for Aesthetics announces the receipt of a very generous bequest from the Estate of Irene H. Chayes. The funds are being invested and revenues will be used to support activities of the ASA.
The ASA is inviting ideas for how it should spend these funds, estimated at $11,500 per year. The ASA President is appointing an ad hoc subcommittee to review the proposals received and make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, which will make the final decision on how to best use the funds.
Proposals, whether for a new travel fund, a new prize, or another idea, should provide as much detail as possible regarding the nature of the proposed expenditure, the rationale, and the annual amount. Ideas should be submitted, in Word format, no later than February 1, 2017, to firstname.lastname@example.org The Trustees expect to make a decision in March.
ASA members are also welcome to post ideas on the Idea Box on the ASA web site for discussion with other members. Log in as a member and look for the red Ideas tab in the upper right ==>Idea Box
Although most funds have been distributed, the ASA expects at least one more payment from the estate at some time in 2017. At that time, the ASA will determine what additional expenditures can be made from the proposals.
