In the coming years, we will be announcing the program chair and committee, deadlines for the Call for Proposals, and registration information. This web site will be the best place to get updated information.

Lodging at the Conference Hotel

  • Our room rate is $148 (single or double).
  • The link to register at our rate will be available in the spring of 2023 to everyone on the program and all who pre-register.
  • We sought bids from many hotels in the greater Washington, DC area. The only way to get cheaper rates was to move far out into the suburbs. Many hotels won't bid on our meeting, as we are too small. Hotels in the center of the city want well over $200 per night. We asked for a bid from the Georgetown University conference center, but they wouldn't bid on our meeting, as we are too small for their facility.
  • Our hotel is much closer to the Washington Mall and the center of town than the Wardman hotel in far northwest DC used by the APA. A short trip on the Metro will take you into town in minutes.
  • Please look at the Metro map to see how convenient our location is: https://www.wmata.com/schedules/maps/#main-content
  • For comparison purposes, the APA conference hotels for 2020: Eastern-$149; Central-$169; Pacific-$199

Tips for Saving Money

  • Register "early-bird" for the meeting at least 30 days in advance.
  • Look for a roommate to share a double with two beds at the hotel. When the program is posted, see if you have friends attending. You are welcome to post on the ASA Facebook page if you are looking for roommates.
  • Use the Metro rail system to get to the meeting from Dulles International Airport.
  • Use the free hotel shuttle to get to the meeting from Washington National Airport.
  • Bring a supply of plastic baggies. Scoop up food at the end of our three evening receptions and/or our luncheon meetings.
  • Hotel rooms all include a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and free wifi.
  • Check out economical restaurants in the neighborhood

Travel Options in the Metropolitan area

  • The Hotel runs a free shuttle bus from National Airport every 15 minutes
  • The Hotel also runs another free shuttle every 15 minutes to the Crystal City Metro stop
  • From Dulles International Airport, Metro now runs all the way to the Airport ($9.30)
  • From Metro, go three stops to the south to Old Town Alexandria
  • From Metro, it's a few short stops into the center of the District of Columbia
  • Map of the Metro System

Feminist Caucus and Diversity Committee Luncheons

    • Feminist Caucus luncheon: Date TBD
    • Diversity Committee luncheon: Date TBD
    • Register on the meeting registration site. (If you have already registered for the meeting, log into the ASA site and go back to the registration area to add the luncheon.)

IRENE H. CHAYES TRAVEL FUND: Since 2018, the Annual Meeting awards up to six travel grants to support travel to the annual meeting for persons with papers accepted for the program who have no other access to travel funds at their institution(s) during the academic year. To be eligible for a travel grant from these funds:

*You must be a member of ASA in good standing in the calendar year of the paper presentation and you must register for the meeting.
*Eligible persons include faculty members (including lecturers, adjuncts, and part-timers) and independent scholars.
*If you have some access to travel funds from your institution, but prefer to use it for a different meeting, you are not eligible for a Chayes Travel Grant this year.

To apply for a travel grant this year:

*Submit your paper as you normally would by the announced deadline for papers.
*Do not include any mention of the Chayes fund in your paper or abstract.
*In the new paper submission system, indicate separately that you wish to be considered for a Chayes travel grant, if your paper is accepted, and explain briefly why you are eligible.
*The program committee will make the final decisions on which persons receive a Chayes travel grant. Priority is for persons who have never received one before. If more than six persons with accepted papers are eligible, the committee will decide which, based on merit, programmatic, and diversity priorities, should get the award.

For the Irene H. Chayes Travel Grants, "paper" includes both individual papers and panel presentations.

IRENE H. CHAYES NEW VOICES AWARDS: Two awards of $1000 each plus travel to the annual meeting will be made. Complete application information: https://aesthetics-online.site-ym.com/page/chayesprize

For the Irene H. Chayes New Voices Awards, only individually submitted papers are eligible; panel presentations are not.

*You must be a full-time student when you submit the paper and when you present it.
*If you are a full-time student when you submit the paper, complete your degree, and are unemployed in the fall, you will retain the student travel grant for that meeting.

To apply for a student travel grant this year:

*Submit your paper as you normally would by the announced deadline for all papers.
*Do not include any mention of your student status in your paper or abstract.
*In the new paper submission system, indicate separately that you wish to be awarded a student travel grant, if your paper is accepted, and state clearly why you are eligible; documentation may be required by ASA from your department.

For the Student Travel Grants, "paper" includes both individual papers and panel presentations.
