 Due to COVID, the ASA Pacific meeting for 2021 was held on Zoom, March 19-21, 2021.

Whether in-person or virtual, the Pacific Division meeting hopes to bring in-depth, long-form discussion of the best new work in aesthetics and the philosophy of art.

Keynote speaker : The Division is honored to welcome Halifu Osumare as the keynote speaker. She is the winner of the 2019 ASA Selma Jeanne Cohen Prize in Dance Aesthetics. Dr. Osumare is Professor Emerita in the Department of African American and African Studies (AAS) at University of California, Davis, and was the Director of AAS from 2011-2014. She has been a dancer, choreographer, arts administrator, and scholar of black popular culture for over forty years. With a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, and an MA in Dance Ethnology from S.F. State University, she is also a protégé of the late renowned dancer-anthropologist Katherine Dunham and a Certified Instructor of Dunham Dance Technique. She will give her address on Zoom at 12:30-2:00 pm PDT on Friday, March 19, followed by a discussion/Q&A.

ASA Policies:

  • Papers presented at ASA Divisional meetings may not be presented at the ASA Annual Meeting. e
  • Submissions from non-members are welcome, but if you are accepted for the program, you must join ASA within 30 days or risk being replaced on the program.
  • Everyone must also register for the meeting. This applies to presenters, panelists, commentators, and chairs.
