The ASA Pacific Division is pleased to host the 2027 Meeting at the Graduate by Hilton Berkeley on March 5-6, 2027.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Emerita Yuriko Saito (RISD) will be the
2027 Peter Kivy Speaker.

She will be presenting on the aesthetics of care in the artifactual world.

Yuriko Saito

Born and raised in Japan, Yuriko Saito taught philosophy at RISD from 1981–2018. In addition to introductory philosophy courses, she taught classes on ecological responsibility in art and design, Japanese aesthetics, everyday aesthetics and philosophy of nature. Her Everyday Aesthetics was published by Oxford University Press (2007, paperback edition 2010), followed by Aesthetics of the Familiar: Everyday Life and World-Making (Oxford University Press, 2017, paperback edition 2019). The latter was awarded the outstanding monograph prize by the American Society for Aesthetics. Her most recent book is Aesthetics of Care: Practice in Everyday Life (Bloomsbury, 2022).

Her works in aesthetics also appear in numerous academic journals and anthologies. She has lectured widely in the US, as well as internationally, including in Austria, China, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. She serves as editor of Contemporary Aesthetics, the first online, open-access and peer-reviewed journal in aesthetics, and editorial consultant for The British Journal of Aesthetics . She is a past recipient of RISD’s John R. Frazier Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Travel Funds: The Division will have $1,000 from the Irene H. Chayes Travel Fund to support travel for presenters (papers or panel presentations) without institutional travel support.

The Pacific Division is also raising funds to provide additional travel grants for people with accepted papers or panel presentations who do not have institutional travel support. All donations are tax deductible. To donate, click here.


REGISTRATION: Registration for the meeting will open in the fall of 2026. When it is available, you will see a bold red "Register" button at the top right of this page.

To be charged the correct rate, please be sure to log in as a member before you register.

The Pacific division of the ASA is pleased to offer free registration to full-time students and those without a full-time academic or professional appointment, excluding retirees, who are not on the 2027 program as a presenter, commentator, or session chair. Registration is still required:

  • To register for the Audience-only waiver, send an email to secretary-treasurer@aesthetics-online.org with your name, email, and institutional affiliation (if any).
  • All others should register by clicking the red REGISTER button in the upper portion of this page when it is available.
  • To receive the student or unemployed rate, you must be a current ASA member with a student or unemployed membership type and you must sign in to your account before registering.

  • Regular: $160
  • Full-time Student/Unemployed*: Program Participants: $80
  • Full-Time Student/Unemployed: Audience-only (waived)

Regular (After February 10)

    • Regular: $220
    • Full-Time Student/Unemployed*: Program Participants: $100

    *Unemployed: those without a full-time academic or professional appointment, excluding retirees.
