ASA Pacific Meeting Moves to Berkeley in 2019

After long discussions with members who regularly attend the ASA Pacific meeting, the ASA Pacific Division has determined to move to a new location in 2019. Members have complained that the high costs of the facilities at the Asilomar Conference Center and expensive travel to Pacific Grove, CA have made attendance by those on limited travel budgets difficult or impossible.

It is hoped that the meeting dates of Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 will also encourage attendance by persons who found it difficult to get away from class schedules during the week.

The new location is an historic property, designed by Julia Morgan (who also designed Asilomar), the Berkeley City Club, in the heart of Berkeley. It is a few blocks from a BART stop, which it is hoped will encourage more attendance from those in the Bay area and those flying into Bay area airports.

The BCC web site shows its gorgeous, historic architecture. The Pacific Division will be meeting in the Drawing Room:

CFP: The co-organizers for the meeting (Anthony Cross and Shelby Moser) are working now on the CFP and it will be publicized as soon as it is available. Please plan on a November 1 deadline. As at all ASA meetings, ASA membership is required for all persons on the program.

Lodging:  The Division is renting meeting rooms only. Participants will be responsible for their own lodging.

  • Group rate at BCC: A very attractive group rate is available for lodging at the BCC of about $150/night, but we must book at least 10 rooms and we must make a final commitment 90 days before the meeting. The Division has no obligation to BCC to arrange this, but it is a good opportunity for ASA members attending the meeting. Interested persons should contact at the earliest opportunity.
  • Local hotels and AirBnB: The Division will provide information, solely as a courtesy, but will be urging people to seek their own lodging, according to their own finances.

Registration rates: These will be announced as soon as possible, with different rates for professionals and students.
