The American Society for Aesthetics is pleased to sponsor speakers on aesthetics at three summer diversity institutes in summer 2020.
Christy Mag Uidhir, Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Houston, is scheduled to speak at the Summer Immersion Program in Philosophy at Brown University and the 23rd Annual Rutgers Summer Institute for Diversity in Philosophy. Professor Mag Uidhir, who received his PhD from Rutgers, will speak on race in films, as a demonstration of how contemporary philosophical aesthetics engages current issues. The SIPP program at Brown has just been cancelled due to COVID-19, but ASA looks forward to sponsoring Professor Mag Uidhir at the 2021 program.
Alexandra King, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at SUNY Buffalo, received her philosophy education at Chicago and Brown. She will speak at the Summer Program for Women in Philosophy at UC San Diego.
2020 is the sixth year that the ASA has sponsored aesthetics speakers at summer diversity institutes. ASA covers all costs for the speakers and is pleased to help support these important diversity programs. All ASA members were eligible to apply for these appointments. The speakers were selected by institute directors from recommendations made by a review committee of senior ASA members.
In previous years, many ASA members have been sponsored by ASA to make presentations on aesthetics at these institutes: Sondra Bacharach, Julianne Chung, A.W. Eaton, Jane Forsey, James B. Haile, Shen-Li Liao, Anna Ribeiro, Mary Beth Willard, and Sarah Worth.
