Elizabeth Scarbrough Named Aesthetics Speaker at SPWP

The American Society for Aesthetics is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Scarbrough, Florida International University, will be the ASA-sponsored speaker at the Summer Program for Women in Philosophy at UC San Diego in July 2021. This is the seventh year that the ASA has sponsored aesthetics speakers at the SPWP. Scarbrough will talk on "Aesthetic’s Role in Monument Removal and Construction." She received her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Washington, where she completed a dissertation on "The Aesthetic Appreciation of Ruins," under the direction of Ronald Moore. All ASA members were eligible to apply for this appointment. The speakers at the summer institutes are selected by institute directors from recommendations made by a review committee of senior ASA members. In previous years, many ASA members have been sponsored by ASA to make presentations on aesthetics at several summer institutes: Sondra Bacharach, Julianne Chung, A.W. Eaton, Jane Forsey, James B. Haile, III, Alexandra King, Shen-Li Liao, Christy Mag Uidhir, Anna Ribeiro, Mary Beth Willard, Sarah Worth.
