The ASA Board of Trustees, at its meeting October 25, unanimously approved expenditures for 2022 from the revenues from the very generous bequest of Irene H. Chayes: - Up to six Irene H. Chayes Travel Grants at $1000 each for travel to present papers or panel presentations at the 80th Annual Meeting in Portland, with the same eligibility criteria used for the existing Grants (persons with accepted papers or panel presentations with no institutional travel support);
- Support for two Irene H. Chayes New Voices Awards (@$1000) and travel (@$1000) to the 80th Annual meeting
- $1000 to each of the four ASA divisions for travel support for presenters at divisional meetings without institutional travel support, with award decisions to be made by division organizers;
- The ASAGE welcoming reception and the Mentoring Breakfast at the 80th Annual Meeting.
- Previously approved is the prize ($1000) and travel funds to the 80th Annual Meeting for the winner of the Social Justice and the Arts Essay competition, sponsored by the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism.
These awards have been made possible by the generosity of a large bequest from the estate of Irene H. Chayes to the American Society for Aesthetics. Irene Hendry Chayes (1916-2014) received her B.A. and M.A. from New York University and her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. She taught literature at the University of Maryland, Hollins College, and SUNY Binghamton.
