Travel Grants Announced for ASA Annual Meeting

TRAVEL GRANTS FOR ASA ANNUAL MEETING November 16-19, 2022 – Portland, Oregon IRENE H. CHAYES TRAVEL GRANTS: For the 2022 Annual Meeting, six travel grants of $1,000 USD each will be available to support travel to the annual meeting for persons with papers or panel presentations accepted for the program who have no other access to travel funds at their institution(s) during the academic year. FRIENDS OF ASA TRAVEL GRANTS: For the 2022 Annual Meeting, travel grants of $1,000 USD each will be available to support travel to the annual meeting for persons with papers or panel presentations accepted for the program who have no other access to travel funds at their institution(s) during the academic year. As of January 2022, the Friends have in hand sufficient funds for six travel grants. Additional grants will be awarded depending on the success of 2022 fund-raising. To be eligible for a travel grant from either of these funds: - You must be a member of ASA in good standing in the calendar year of the paper presentation and you must register for the meeting.
- Eligible persons include faculty members (including lecturers, adjuncts, and part-timers) and independent scholars.
- If you have some access to travel funds from your institution, but prefer to use it for a different meeting, you are not eligible for a Chayes Travel Grant or a Friends of ASA Travel Grant this year.
- If you are eligible for a student grant (below), you are NOT eligible for an Irene H. Chayes or a Friends of ASA Travel Grant.
To apply for a travel grant this year from either of these funds: The program committee will make the final decisions on which persons receive Chayes or Friends travel grants. If more persons with accepted papers are eligible than available funding, the committee will decide which, based on merit, programmatic, and diversity priorities, should get the awards STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS: All full-time students with papers or panel presentations accepted for the program will receive a travel grant of $1,000 USD each to support travel to the annual meeting. To be eligible for a student travel grant from these funds: - You must be a member of ASA in good standing in the calendar year of the paper presentation and you must register for the meeting.
- You must be a full-time student when you submit the paper and when you present it.
- If you are a full-time student when you submit the paper, complete your degree, and are unemployed in the fall, you will retain the student travel grant for that meeting.
- If you are eligible for a student grant, you are NOT eligible for an Irene H. Chayes or a Friends of ASA Travel Grant.
- Submit your paper as you normally would by the announced deadline of March 1, 2022
- Do not include any mention of the Chayes or Friends fund in your paper or abstract.
- In the paper submission system, indicate separately that you wish to be considered for a Chayes or Friends travel grant, if your paper is accepted, and explain briefly why you are eligible.
To apply for a student travel grant this year: - Submit your paper as you normally would by the announced deadline of March 1, 2022
- Do not include any mention of your student status in your paper or abstract.
- In the paper submission system, indicate separately that you wish to be awarded a student travel grant, if your paper is accepted, and state clearly why you are eligible; documentation may be required by ASA from your department.
ADDITIONAL TRAVEL SUPPORT: Travel support is provided by ASA for prize winners, ASA Editors, and Program Committee members. If you are eligible, you will be contacted by ASA with reimbursement claim forms.
