The Program Committee for the 80th Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, November 16-19, 2022 announces a Call for Submissions for Quick-Fire Presentations on Saturday afternoon at the meeting:

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 15, 2022

The ASA welcomes submissions of abstracts on all aspects of aesthetics and the philosophy of art for an experimental quick-fire philosophy session.

The session is intended to provide a fun and fast-paced opportunity for speakers to give an extended ‘elevator pitch’ of a particularly wild or ambitious thesis that has a little something going for it after all.

Format

The session will take place on Saturday, November 19 and feature up to eight presentations, each running five minutes and followed by up to ten minutes of Q&A. It will last two hours.

Conditions of Acceptance

  • Membership: Non-members may submit abstracts, but must join the ASA within thirty days of acceptance of their contribution to avoid removal from the program. All participants must be ASA members and register for the meeting.
  • Duplication: Papers presented at this or previous ASA annual, division, or ASA/BSA Virtual Summer Festival meetings are not eligible.
  • One-appearance rule: Quick-fire presentations are exempt from our usual one-appearance rule, but preference will be given to persons not otherwise on the program.
  • Attendance: All presenters must be able to attend in person.

Submissions

Submissions should be in the form of abstracts of 300 words or less. They are due by July 15, 2022 and should be sent in one email to Program Chairs Sandy Shapshay at ss9432@hunter.cuny.edu and Nils Stear at nstear@umich.edu

Queries

Please address all correspondence to both Program Chairs (email addresses above).
