Friends of ASA: Progress Report!

Last December, ASA announced that it had received a $5,000 2:1 matching donation from an anonymous donor, a long-time ASA member. The funds raised would be used to support travel grants for the 2023 Annual meeting for persons giving papers or panel presentations who do not have institutional travel support. We are very pleased to report that we raised enough funds for five Friends of ASA Travel Grants and unlocked the entire match. In addition, we have awarded six Irene H. Chayes Travel Grants, for a total of eleven travel grants for persons on the program without institutional support.

That's the good news. Unfortunately, we received applications for fourteen travel grants from persons on the program for this meeting. Following guidelines set by the Trustees, preference was given to persons who had not previously received ASA travel funding. The bottom line is that three more persons on the program are not yet funded.

We are very hopeful that we can raise funding for three additional travel grants. Remember how important it was to get feedback from colleagues on your work in progress at professional meetings? The Friends want to ensure that those without financial resources receive that help now. Did you benefit earlier in your career from travel grants from ASA? Now would be a good time to pay it forward to help others.
