The American Society for Aesthetics announces that it has funded a conference on Philosophy of Street Art for $5,000. The conference, to be held in Atlanta, is tentatively scheduled for October 9-10, 2025, and is directed by Tony Chackal (Augusta University) and Shelby Moser (University of Utah). The conference, "Painting the Town: Novel Themes and Problems in Contemporary Street Art," aims to reinvigorate philosophical engagement with street art, building upon the foundation of the previous conference organized a decade ago in New York City by Nick Riggle (University of San Diego) and Christy Mag Uidhir (University of Houston). The earlier conference was also funded by ASA. Riggle will be the keynote speaker at the 2025 conference. Both Moser and Chackal presented work at the conference in 2015. The conference will include invited speakers, an open call for submitted papers, and panel presentations by local artists. Themes to be addressed include street art and community, aesthetic value, commercialization, subversive power, gender/race/class, social justice, and advertising. As more information becomes available it will be publicized on this web site.
