ASA Trustee Actions at Recent Meetings

The American Society for Aesthetics Board of Trustees, at meetings October 23 and December 2, 2024, took action on several items of interest to members.
- They approved expenditure of revenue from the Irene H. Chayes bequest in 2025 as follows:
- Six travel grants @$1400 to the Annual Meeting for persons without institutional support for paper/panel prewentations
- Two New Voices Awards @$1000 prize and $1400 travel
- $1000 to each of the four Divisions for travel grants for persons without institutional support for paper/panel presentations
- To use Friends of the ASA funds, where available, for travel grants @$1400 to the Annual Meeting for persons without institutional support for paper/panel presentations.
- To establish a Prize to recognize excellent published work in legal aesthetics/philosophy of art law, broadly understood, to be awarded for the first time in 2026
- To authorize up to $5,000 (total) for support of aesthetics speakers at summer institutes at Brown, San Diego, and Rutgers, for stipend and travel
- To increase all memberships, in all categories, by $5/year, commencing in 2025
- To increase all regular registration rates (for both ASA members and non-members) at the Annual meeting by $5/day and to freeze registration for students and unemployed
at 2024 rates
- To approve up to $5,000 to fund a conference on street art, directed by Tony Chackal and Shelby Moser in Atlanta in fall 2025
- To establish a Juries Committee to appoint jurors to ASA Awards and Prize Committees
- To appoint Charles Peterson as National Ombudsperson and Jeanette Bicknell as Pacific Ombudsperson for 2025 meetings
